The most important of what is happening in Burgas related to the business environment.

The only Center for Excellence in Computer Science has opened in Burgas

A modern technological Center for Excellence at the Vocational High School of Computer Programming and Innovations in the Meden Rudnik residential area has opened its doors in Burgas. The new complex has a total built-up area of over 2,500 sq. m and includes two 4-storey buildings - a training center and a dormitory, which together form a comprehensive system for education, science and entrepreneurship.

"7 years ago, when I announced that a new computer school would be built here, 90% were negative. Currently, not only children study here, but also children from all over the country. And the fact that this building combines both education and accommodation is wonderful. This is happening thanks to a partnership between the school management, strong support from us, support from the Ministry of Education and the Social Development Agency, the board of trustees and the public council," said Mayor Dimitar Nikolov.

"The equipment is at a high level and the day will not be far when, in addition to software, we will see the first finished robot here. There are already quite a few enterprises in Burgas that use industrial robots, and therefore young people with knowledge and skills are needed who can work on these new challenges. The next step for this wonderful school is a new gym with a new swimming pool. Thank you to all the teachers who care about the growth of our children's knowledge. Good luck to the new Center!", added Mayor Nikolov.

The center in Burgas is a scientific and innovative core of professional education in the field of computer science, which will unite students, teachers, undergraduates and business representatives. This will increase the quality of technological education, practical skills in the field of programming, microelectronics and digital manufacturing, stimulate innovation, entrepreneurship and work on real projects, and provide qualification and retraining.

"The opening of this Center is not only the opening of a new building, but it is a new step towards change in Bulgarian education, which places emphasis on quality, practical skills and the connection of the school with real business. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in partnership with local authorities, supported the construction of this center. Currently, a total of 28 Centers are being built in different professional areas, one for each area. We support the construction of these centers because they are the path to a professionally oriented education," shared Kamelia Sharabova - an expert in the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training of the Ministry of Education.

Of all the vocational high schools across the country designated to receive Center of Excellence status, the Burgas high school is the only one in the Computer Science department. This will give students access to a modern, technology-oriented learning environment that will stimulate the entrepreneurial potential of young people and prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century.

"I thank the Municipality of Burgas because it supports an enormous number of projects in the field of education and has built extremely innovative, new buildings under the Educational Service Area Plan, for which we are the first in the country and I want to congratulate you for this. In addition, we also have many schools in which such renovations have been made and my colleagues who come from other cities have told me that they want to move their children to study in Burgas. And the school where we are now is a confirmation of this," said Magda Moskova, Senior Expert "Technical Verification", DG "Verification" Executive Agency "Education Program".

Congratulations on the opening of the Center for Excellence were also extended by Valentina Kamalieva - Head of the Burgas Regional Educational and Cultural Organization, Ivelina Strateva - Chairwoman of the School Board of the High School, Assoc. Prof. Pelova from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", the Director of the PGKPI Dimitrina Todorova and the Deputy Director of the High School Ivelina Arabadzhieva.

Then, official guests toured the technological laboratories of the Center for Excellence and the demonstrations with modern equipment that had been prepared by the students of the computer high school, as well as the conditions provided by the new dormitory.

The High Technology Center has a large hall on the ground floor with a capacity of 200 seats, which will allow for conferences, competitions, trainings and demonstrations. Each of the next three floors has two high-tech laboratories - in programming, computer science, robotics and IoT, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, a microelectronics laboratory and a modern makerspace with CNC machines and equipment for 3D and laser prototyping. This will provide gigabit network connectivity, WiFi 6 coverage, audiovisual systems and infrastructure for holding online events and streaming.

The new dormitory at the Center for Excellence has 15 double rooms, fully furnished and equipped, with a total capacity of up to 30 students. The building also has a kitchen and dining room, areas for self-study and relaxation, a laundry room and an access control and video surveillance system. This ensures a safe and comfortable environment for students from other settlements who study at the high school.

The event was also attended by representatives of IT companies - partners of the Vocational High School of Computer Programming and Innovations in Burgas, teachers and students.

The center was built under Project BG-RRP-1.014-0011-C02 "Construction of a center for excellence in the professional field of "Computer Science" at PGKPI - Burgas", within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, with co-financing from the Municipality of Burgas for the construction of a dormitory there.
